On behalf of the City of Mississauga, Members of Council and our team of professional staff, we proudly join with local Indian families to commemorate India Independence Day – an opportunity to celebrate and mark India’s sovereignty.

“Canada and India enjoy a strong, proud and enduring relationship that thrives in communities across our nation. The strength of this bond is especially evident in places like Mississauga.
“Mississauga has an important relationship with India. We have an active, engaged and thoughtful Indian population which continues to invest back in our City as committed public servants, renowned academics, compassionate volunteers, and successful business owners. Celebration Square is home to a number of popular, celebrated and much anticipated Indian and South Asian festivals year round.

“In 2017, we also celebrated another important milestone with the 150th anniversary of Confederation and the founding of Canada. Our country continues to be enriched by the lasting nation-building contributions of new Canadians from places, like India, and from communities around the world. To celebrate Canada is to celebrate the diversity of Canadians.

“Once again, I join with Mississauga’s Indian community to mark India Independence Day. It is my hope that the bond between Mississauga and Indian communities grows even stronger.”
