A Nepalese labourer, accused of raping of a minor girl in Kothai, was killed reportedly by another accused at the Kotkhai police station in Shimla district late on Wednesda night. As per reports, the deceased was likely to turn an approver.
Following the death, the staff of the police station was shifted out, and a recommendation for a judicial inquiry has been made.

Additional police force was rushed to Kotkhai to tackle the law and order situation, as it is feared that incident might add fuel to the public outrage over the rape incident.

On July 4, a Class X student was raped and murdered after she took a lift in a vehicle driven by Rajender, the man who reportedly killed Suraj, the labourer.

The body of the victim was recovered from the nearby Halila forest two days later. Six people were arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police, Rajender alias Raju had heated exchanges with Suraj in the lockup and a scuffle ensued.

Rajender banged Suraj’s head against a wall, which led to his death, police said. Z H Zaidi, IG (Southern range) said Suraj had narrated the entire sequence leading to the rape and named Rajender as the main accused.
