Will coach Argentina for free, says Maradona
Argentina legend Diego Maradona has expressed his desire to coach the national side and added that he is ready to work without payment. Argentina are looking for a replacement for Gerardo Martino, who resigned after Argentina lost to Chile in the final of the Copa America Centenario a few weeks ago. “A lot of people seem to think I am an expensive coach. But what about Jose Mourinho? And Carlo Ancelotti or Diego Simeone? I don’t know how expensive I am compared to these coaches. I would coach the national team for free,“ said Maradona who had previously coached Argentina from 2008 till the 2010 World Cup.
Gomez quits Besiktas after Turkey coup
German striker Mario Gomez, the top scorer in Turkey’s Super Lig last season, said he was leaving Istanbul club Besiktas after just one year due to the political situation in the wake of the failed coup. “I have to tell you Besiktas fans personally that it is very heavy for me that I will not be playing for this great club in front of you wonderful fans in this unique stadium anymore,“ he said in a statement on his Facebook page. “It is purely down to the terrible events that happened in the last few days. I hope you can understand that.“
