OTTAWA – JANUARY 26, 2017

The Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Rona Ambrose, issued the following statement to mark India Republic Day:
“Today, throughout Canada and around the world, people of Indian descent will gather to celebrate India Republic Day, the national holiday which marks the formal adoption of its constitution.

“As millions throughout the world gather to mark this important milestone, Canadians can reflect on the long-lasting and special relationship between Canada and India. 

“Beyond our economic relationship, Canadians of Indian decent have played a vital role in building a pluralistic and prosperous Canada. These contributions have allowed Canada to become the inclusive and vibrant nation it is known as today.

“Canada is home to over one million people of Indian descent, and under our previous conservative government, Canadian welcomed hundreds of thousands of newcomers to Canada from India. Indo-Canadians are at the forefront of our country and make an incredibly positive impact. They continue to help shape our national story.

“On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I am honoured to wish all Indo-Canadians, a Happy Republic Day!”
