Hockey India president Narinder Batra has shot off a letter to the IOA top brass, asking the sports body to allow eight coaching and support staff each for the men and women’s national teams at the Rio Olympics.“Hockey Indian stands firm that eight coaching and support staff with each men and women hockey teams (total 16 coaching and support staff) are required to accompany each of the teams,”Batra wrote in his missive. “We request you to utilise the permitted allocation of accreditation in the best interest of the athletes and by not doing so, IOA will be undermining all the preparations and hard work of the athletes,” Batra wrote in the letter.

Shastri or Kumble? The wait gets longer

Coach panel to give report on June 24

The high-profile cricket advisory committee will submit its final report to the BCCI on the appointment of a new India coach during the Board’s working committee meeting in Dharamsala on Friday. Former captain Anil Kumble along with ex-India cricketers Pravin Amre and Lalchand Rajput made their respective presentations as the BCCI’s three member cricket advisory committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, took interviews for the coveted job in Kolkata. “The Committee appointed by the BCCI for the selection of Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team met on Thursday to deliberate further on the options and possibilities based on the presentations made by the applicants.“After detailed deliberations it was decided that they would further go through the finer details and submit their report to the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI on the morning of June 24, 2016,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Besides consulting Kohli, the committee is also likely to take into consideration the views of some of the senior India regulars before firming up its choice.
Kohli’s preference will obviously gain a lot of weightage in the committee’s final recommendation.
It remains to be seen if Kohli prefers the team director with whom he developed an excellent rapport over the last 18 months, or the legendary leg-spinner who had played a major role in getting his focus back on the game in the Royal Challengers Bangalore change room during the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League.
