“Remaking Sholay will be injustice”

Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar portrayed a character modelled around one of the iconic villain of Indian cinema in his blockbuster film ‘Gabbar Is Back’ which released in May this year.

The ruthless dacoit “ Gabbar Singh’’ was played by late actor Amjad Khan in the cult classic “ “Sholay’ which released on August 15, 1975 The film directed by Ramesh Sippy will clock 40 years this weekend. According to Akshay, ‘Gabbar Is Back’ was his way of paying tribute to the hit film ‘Sholay’. Akshay’s look in the film was also modelled on Gabbar of ‘Sholay’ with a heavy beard and wavy side flicks. On asked which character he would like to essay if the film was remade, the actor observed, “It will be injustice to remake ‘Sholay’.” “No actor can do justice to the roles played by Bachchan ji and Dharmendra ji. The film is very close to my heart and ‘Gabbar is Back’ was the result of my attachment to ‘Sholay’,” the ‘Khaladi’ told media in India.

Meanwhile, Akshay is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Brothers’ which also stars Siddharth Malhotra, Jacqueline Fernandez, Jackie Shroff and Shefali Shah. The film directed bu Karan Malhotra is the official remake of Hollywood film ‘Warrior’. It is set to hit screens on August 14.

Actress Jacqueline who plays Akshay’s wife in ‘Brothers’ said ‘Sholay’ was the first Bollywood film she watched.
