Chittorgarh police have arrested a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader for abusing and misbehaving with a woman assistant sub inspector (ASI). Chittorgarh SHO Om Prakash told media that ASI Kamlesh Kanwar has stopped a youth for rash driving. When asked to produce documents, the youth called local BJP leader Prem Sharma, who Prakash said put pressure on the ASI to release the youth. When she refused, Sharma started abusing her, police said.
SC moved against ban on cattle trade
The controversy surrounding Modi government’s notification banning sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter reached the Supreme Court with a lawyer challenging its validity. Mohammed Qureshi said the May 25 notification was “discriminatory” and “unconstitutional”. The court will take up the PIL on June 15. TNS
Justice Karnan’s plea to stay order rejected
Calcutta High Court judge CS Karnan, evading arrest since May 9, failed to get relief from India’s supreme court , which refused to hear his plea seeking stay on its order awarding him six-month jail for contempt of court. Justice Karnan’s counsel mentioned the matter before a vacation Bench, which refused to interfere with the order directing the WB Police to take him into custody.
