Riz Ahmed is first Muslim to win Emmy

British Pakistan actor Riz Ahmed became the first Muslim actor as well as man of Asian descent to win an Emmy award  and spoke about the “systematic issue of inclusion”. The actor took home the trophy for the outstanding lead actor in a limited series for `The Night Of ‘, in which he plays Nasir Khan, the son of a Pakistani cab driver from Queens who becomes a murder suspect. Ahmed is the second Asian actor ever to receive the honour, following `The Good Wife’ star Archie Panjabi, who won the supporting actress award in 2010. Ahmed talked about the importance of the Innocence Project and the South Asian Youth Action organisation. “It is always strange reaping the rewards of a story that’s based on real world suffering, but if this show has shown a light on some of the prejudice in our societies, Islamophobia, some of the injustice in our justice system, then maybe that is something. I don’t know if any one person’s win changes something that’s a systemic issue of inclusion. In this industry, that’s something that happens slowly over time,”  he said. Ahmed, 34, praised Ed Skrein’s decision to step away from the part of an Asi an character in `Hellboy’ re boot to give chance to a more deserving actor. Born in Lon don to a British Pakistani fa mily , Ahmed was known for his work in `The Road to Gu antanamo’ and Mira Nair’s `The Reluctant Fundamenta list’ before his breakout role in `Nightcrawler’ in 2014.

For the second time Priyanka Chopra presented  award at Emmys and she shared the dais with Anthony Anderson. The duo presented the Award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series to John Oliver for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”. The talk show won the award for the second time.

Priyanka Chopra looked stunning in a white printed gown with a long feather trail. She tied her hair neatly in a sleek ponytail and completed her looks with deep berry lips.

A little catastrophe also happened when the announcer wrongly pronounced Priyanka’s surname as “Chopa” instead of “Chopra”.   Priyanka has joined the list of Hollywood stars like Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Adam Scott, Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Seth Meyers and Dolly Parton, who presented awards at Emmys.

The ‘Baywatch’, recently visited Jordan and met with Syrian refugee kids. On the work front, Priyanka will be seen in ‘A Kid Like Jake’ and ‘Isn’t It Romantic?’.

However, her fans appeared shocked at the mispronunciation. As usual, it caused a stir on Twitter.
