Premier Kathleen Wynne met Wednesday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his community event at Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum. She was joined by Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, Brad Duguid and Associate Minister of Health and Long Term Care, Dipika Damerla.
Premier Wynne expressed her interest in supporting partnerships between Ontario companies and institutions and their Indian counterparts.
Wynne said: “I was delighted to meet today with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of his visit to Canada. We both share a desire to deepen the excellent relationship we already enjoy, thanks in no small part to the tremendous contributions of the over 700,000 Indo-Canadians who call Ontario home.”
After the meeting, Premier Wynne joined 10,000 members of the Indo-Canadian community to hear Prime Minister Modi’s speech at Ricoh Coliseum. Wynne said: “As the leader of the world’s largest democracy and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, Prime Minister Modi delivered a speech that spoke to the hearts of the community about taking India forward. The excitement and the energy in the room is something I will always remember from this historic visit.”
