In a rare case, Winnipeg police have arrested one of their own officer who is a veteran with close to 15-year experience of the force allegedly threatening another officer while on duty.

The 40-year-old officer was arrested following an investigation into the incident, which police say took place last year.

He faces a number of threat-related charges, including two counts of pointing a firearm and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He was released on a promise to appear and is currently on administrative leave. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified and is monitoring the investigation. The unit looks into all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba.
