Parents ‘shocked’ after police find son, 2, walking alone in Markham

York Regional Police has said that they have found the parents of a boy found wandering alone on a residential street in Markham on Wednesday night Police said that the two-year-old boy was found by a number of people in the area of Larkin Avenue and Lehman Crescent and a passerby later contacted police. Sgt. James Ward said officers gave the boy a teddy bear and started knocking on doors at about 8:30 p.m. to find his family. He said they eventually found members of the boy’s family, who were “very, very shocked” to discover the boy was alone outside. Ward said the family told police they had put the boy to bed earlier on Wednesday night and had no idea he had made his way out of their home. Ward said parents should always be wary and vigilant after putting their small children to bed.

 

Suspected gunman apprehended in Windsor

Police in Windsor have said that suspected shooter has been apprehended following an hours-long manhunt.

Police said Richard Wallace, 29, was taken into police custody. Earlier, authorities were asking residents to stay away from the area of Pillette Village, after shots were reportedly fired at a residence overnight. During the manhunt, police said the shooter was reportedly wearing camouflage and carrying a long gun. Officers first responded to a reported shooting involving multiple people at a residence at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Around 2:30 a.m., police pulled over a stolen vehicle and arrested two individuals. Windsor Police Const. Andrew Drouillard told media that the suspected shooter was seen by a citizen walking in the area carrying a long gun. Prior to that, officers heard shots fired on the street. Some area schools were closed to students and staff Wednesday morning as police investigated.

 

OPP charge man in Wasaga Beach killing of Erick Tello-Arias

Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly Wasaga Beach stabbing. The OPP said a 21-year-old man from Wasaga Beach has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Erick Tello-Arias.

Tello-Arias, a 23-year-old from Caledon, Ont., was one of two men stabbed to death in the Georgian Bay resort town on the Victoria Day holiday weekend. The altercation happened at 3:30 a.m on May 23 near Main Street, according to the OPP. Police said that he was stabbed close to Skull Island, a pirate-themed miniature golf course in the area.  Two days before Tello-Arias’s death, 18-year-old Francesco Molinaro, of Bolton, Ont., was stabbed to death at a pizza shop on Mosley Street.  Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Huronia West OPP directly or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Homicide Bureau Make Second Arrest in 2012 Mississauga Shooting Death

Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau continue to investigate an incident that took place at a residence in Mississauga, in 2012, which resulted in the shooting death of a young male.

On Friday, December 7, 2012, at approximately 12:25 a.m., police responded to a 911 call from a homeowner on Corkstone Glade in Mississauga, reporting that three males, including two that were armed, had broken into their home. Upon arrival, police located a male, who was deceased as a result of a gunshot wound, and there was evidence that an altercation had taken place.

The three culprits had been confronted by the homeowner, and a struggle ensued, resulting in the death of the young male.  The deceased was identified as Ibrahim ABUKAR, a 22 year-old resident of Toronto. After a lengthy investigation, police have identified two suspects responsible for the home invasion and the death of Ibrahim ABUKAR.

On January 25th, 2016, 42 year-old Jason HAMILTON of Mississauga turned himself into police and was charged with manslaughter. HAMILTON was released on bail and is awaiting trial.

Haldane SMITHEN-DAVIS, a 36 year-old male from Toronto, was arrested in the United Kingdom on September 17, 2015, for the offence of Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Robbery with a Firearm.  Today, SMITHEN-DAVIS was extradited back to Canada.  SMITHEN-DAVIS is being held for a bail hearing and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Friday, May 27th, 2016.

Suspect Arrested in Human Trafficking Investigation

Investigators from the Major Drugs and Vice Bureau have arrested a male suspect in relation to a Human Trafficking Investigation that occurred in Mississauga.

The 24 year-old female victim met the suspect in early March 2015, and was then lured into the sex trade industry. It is alleged that the suspect profited from the victim’s acts, and that he exercised control over all aspects of the victim’s life.

On Thursday, May 19, 2016, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect Lowell SOMERVILLE, a 34 year-old Mississauga resident was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police near the town of Midland, Ontario. The suspect appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice, Brampton, on Friday, May 20, 2016, for a Bail Hearing for the  charges of : Human Trafficking; Exercise Control; Receiving Material Benefit x 2; Advertise for Sexual Services; Administer Noxious Substance; Uttering Threats; Sex Assault with a weapon x2,

Police are concerned there may be additional victims of Human Trafficking associated to this party.
