The Official Opposition Critic for Public Services and Procurement, the Hon. Steven Blaney, and Deputy Critic, Kelly McCauley, today called upon the Chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates, Tom Lukiwski, to convene an emergency meeting to further study the Phoenix Pay System:

“As Members of Parliament who represent thousands of constituents who are public sector employees, we have received numerous requests to look into the urgent matter of the federal government’s failed Phoenix Pay System. That is why we are calling upon the Chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates to convene an emergency meeting, to further study the issues plaguing the Phoenix Pay System.

“We are truly disappointed to see the Liberal members of this committee ignore our request to convene an emergency meeting. After reaching out to their offices, and receiving no response, it is clear that this issue is not a priority for them.

“While the Liberals continue to dodge this serious issue, both opposition parties will work together to find a solution to this problem.

“To this date, more than 80,000 public servants have been affected by this dysfunctional system, a system that is unable to complete its primary function of issuing payments.

“While public servants are not receiving pay, Minister Foote and her Liberal colleagues continue to display a lack of concern for the issue.”
