Ontario Heritage Trust presents Lieutenant Governor Ontario Heritage Awards

TORONTO –Last Friday, the Ontario Heritage Trust, in partnership with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, announced the recipients of the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Awards, recognizing individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to conserving Ontario’s heritage.

Individuals, groups, and communities are recognized for demonstrating leadership, commitment, creativity, positive impact on their community and good conservation practices. The 2014 winners of the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Awards are:

Youth achievement – individual/Young Heritage Leaders scholarship

  • Mélanie-Rose Frappier (Sudbury)
  • Muhammad Qureshi (Mississauga)

Youth achievement – group

  • Huzza for Freedom: Political Cartoons and the War of 1812 Exhibit (Toronto)
  • Juno Beach Project (Smiths Falls, Oakville and Owen Sound)
  • Métis Nation of Ontario Canoe Expedition (province wide project)

Lifetime achievement

  • Bill Darfler (Brantford)
  • George Gordon (Oakville)
  • Wayne Hunter (Brantford)

Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life have supported the Young Heritage Leaders program since its inception with funding through the companies’ national corporate citizenship program. The recipients of the Young Heritage Leaders scholarship will be presented with a $2,000 post-secondary scholarship, jointly funded by the Ontario Heritage Trust and Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life.
