Local college students have been looking for chances to keep learning, despite the fact their profs are on the picket lines.

Over 12,000 professors, instructors, librarians, and counsellors across Ontario are on strike at the province’s 24 public colleges. The strike began at 12:01 a.m. Monday, with no timeline for a resolution.

Some students say they’re worried their academic year could be at risk if the strike lasts too long

The strike has left apprentices uncertain about if and when they will be able to complete their training and certification. The labour dispute affects more than 500,000 students in the province. Talks broke down between the Ontario Public Services Employees Union (OPSEU) and the College Employer Council, which bargains for the schools. The two sides were unable to reach an agreement by the deadline St. Clair College has suspended job placements for about 150 of its students
