Shan is the only candidate of the three major parties who can vote in the byelection
Scarborough – Neethan Shan, the Ontario NDP candidate in the Scarborough-Rouge River byelection, voted this morning on the first day of advance polls.

“I voted to fight for Scarborough,” Shan said.  “I live here and I work here. My wife and I are raising our two sons in Morningside Heights.  I want a better future for them, and for families in Scarborough.”

“We are tired of being ignored by Kathleen Wynne. As MPP, I will fight for the respect Scarborough deserves by getting shovels in the ground for our subway, bringing good local jobs to our community, lowering our hydro bills, and lowering ER wait times in our hospitals.”

Neethan Shan is the only candidate of the three political parties represented in the Ontario legislature, who actually lives in the riding of Scarborough-Rouge River.  The Liberal and Conservative candidates do not live in the riding, and are ineligible to vote in this byelection.

Shan has roots in Scarborough, where he started working more than 16 years ago.     He is also the public school board trustee for Scarborough-Rouge River.

“To represent a community effectively, you have to be a part of it, not just from 9 to 5, but 24-7. You need roots in the community to understand the people you want to represent. You need to know what people are saying, and what they are feeling. You do that when you meet people at your local grocery store, at your kid’s soccer games, and out in your neighborhood,” Shan said.
