Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students’ protest against the appointment of Dr Firoz Khan as assistant professor at Sanskrit Vidya Dharam Vigyan may have succeeded as Dr Khan reportedly returned to his hometown Jaipur, citing security concerns.A section of students had launched a protest on November 6 following confirmation of his appointment. Despite the students defying rules, BHU VC Rakesh Bhatnagar merely pleaded with them to withdraw their protest. The university has yet to take action against the protesters.A committee comprising non-right wing student groups organised a march on the campus to express solidarity with Dr Khan.
