Member of Parliament for Brampton South presented medals and watched various games to support 1700+ athletes competing in Brampton
BRAMPTON—For the past few days, Brampton played host to the Canada 55+ games where 1700+ athletes from across Canada came to compete. Member of Parliament for Brampton South, Sonia Sidhu, took in the games at the various competition venues across the city, especially those in her riding of Brampton South.
“It’s been so much fun these past few days!” said MP Sidhu. “I have been impressed by all the athletes. I hope everyone enjoyed their stay in Brampton, and they should all be so proud of the sportsmanly spirit they brought.”
MP Sidhu was given the opportunity to present the medals to the athletes during the men & women’s ice hockey. Brampton brought forward many teams of its own that did quite well, including wins in various age brackets of ice hockey, which MP Sidhu was honoured to congratulate them for. The Canada 55+ games competitions included 5 pin bowling, badminton, swimming, slow pitch, table tennis, golf, darts, tennis, track & field, and many other sports. The results are posted here.
MP Sidhu added, “It was such an honour to present these athletes with medals. I wish I could have given a medal to every participant. They all worked so hard – they all proved that being active doesn’t have to stop.”
The games close down tonight with a closing ceremony at the International Centre in Mississauga, where MP Sidhu will be in attendance.
