The Maharashtra State Commission for Women has issued summons for Bollywood actor Salman Khan over his ‘rape’ remark during a promotion for his latest movie Sultan. The actor was asked to appear before the commission on June 29 at 2 pm.

Khan, in a recent interview, said that he “felt like a raped woman” during Sultan’s shooting, drawing criticism from fans and women activists alike.

The National Commission for Women has already demanded an apology and an explanation from the Bollywood superstar within seven days.

NCW chief Lalitha Kumaramangalam said that the actor would be summoned before the commission if his explanation was found to be unsatisfactory.

Lambasting Salman the Shiv Sena urged directors respecting women to boycott the Bollywood super star till he tenders an “unconditional apology” for his comment.

“I have not seen a celebrity who can get more shameless than Salman Khan. He has a destructive nature from the beginning. He shoots endangered animals, kills people living on footpaths and now this (remark on rape). People still, ironically, consider him a hero,” Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande told media in Mumbai.
