Tim Uppal, Minister of State for Multiculturalism, was joined by the Honourable Laurie Hawn, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, to celebrate the Lunar New Year Extravaganza at West Edmonton Mall, organized by the Edmonton Chinatown Multicultural Centre.

Lunar New Year is a time when Canadians of Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean heritage gather with family and friends to reflect on the year that has just passed, and to look forward in anticipation of all that the year ahead may bring. In 2015, Lunar New Year officially begins on February 19, and marks the start of the year of the sheep.
During the celebration, Minister Uppal brought greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada. In his remarks he also highlighted the many contributions Canadians of Chinese heritage have made to our great pluralistic country.
“It was an honour to join the Chinese – Canadian community in Edmonton to celebrate the start of a bright and promising New Year – the Year of the Sheep, a symbol of peace and calmness. Best wishes to everyone for a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Sheep,”said Minister Tim Uppal
