BRAMPTON, ON – Today Mayor Linda Jeffrey delegated to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs (“the Committee”) with the City of Brampton’s Provincial budget submission that outlined a need to stay the course on post-secondary education expansion and transit infrastructure while investing in healthy communities and working together to address Brampton’s youth homelessness issue.

Further Enhanced GO Rail Service

“The Province’s expansion of GO rail service to and from Brampton has had a very positive impact on the lives of many of our residents. Today I urged the Committee to stay the course and continue working towards Two-Way, All-Day GO rail service on the Brampton-Guelph-Kitchener-Waterloo line connecting Ontario’s Innovation Corridor to Toronto.”

Commitment to Post-Secondary Expansion

“We are very pleased that the Government of Ontario is committed to expanding post-secondary education in the province. I along with Council and so many Brampton residents look forward to the Province’s official second call for proposals and our Blue Ribbon Panel’s recommended post-secondary partner.”

Addressing Youth Homelessness in Brampton

“The Region of Peel and more specifically, the City of Brampton continues to be under served in dealing with our female youth homelessness issue. I believe it is important that we work together with the Province to address this alarming situation. I have requested that the Committee include in the 2016 Provincial budget funding that will help support 215 homeless Brampton youth in crisis.”

Supporting a Healthy, Active Community

“A healthy community is important to us all and healthy, active seniors are an important part of that goal. On behalf of my colleagues on City Council I have asked that the Committee consider supporting the 2016 Canada 55+ Games and partner with Brampton as we host athletes from across our great nation.”

“Together with our partners at the Provincial Government we will continue to work towards building a better Brampton for us all.”
