BRAMPTON, ON – Mayor Linda Jeffrey and staff from City of Brampton’s Economic Development Office attended the 2018 Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) International Convention this week in Boston. This is the largest biotechnology conference in the world with more than 16,000 attendees and 1,800 exhibiters from 66 countries this year.

Mayor Jeffrey hosted a breakfast and networking opportunity where many business leaders from the innovation, health and life science sectors attended to discuss opportunities in Brampton.

“We are a rapidly growing and youthful city. We have a large talent pool of highly-educated and highly-skilled individuals,” said Mayor Linda Jeffrey. “They’re ambitious and creative and soon there will be more young people joining us as Ryerson University in downtown Brampton opens its doors in 2022. This new university campus will be focused on data-driven sciences and experiential learning as well as health and life sciences. It’s sure to build strong connections and synergy with the nearby health cluster.

“Our diversity makes us a microcosm of the world – attractive to medical researchers, start-ups, multinational firms and finance. The future of health care is in Brampton. We have a focus on preventive care and wellness, paired with digital and technology tools to integrate health care and bridge the gap between patients and providers,” Mayor Jeffrey added.

Mayor Jeffrey also provided remarks at the Ontario Government’s Luncheon where she highlighted the great opportunities in Brampton for the innovation, health and life sciences sectors.
