Diego Maradona has signed a three-year contract to join top-flight Belarusian club Dinamo Brest as chairman, the club said. Argentine legend Maradona last month stepped down as coach of United Arab Emirates second division club Al-Fujairah. “Yes, Diego’s with us!” the club wrote on its official Twitter account following media rumours over the weekend. Maradona, one of football’s most divisive figures off the field, will oversee the “strategic development” of the club when he takes over following the June14-July 15 World Cup in Russia.

$500m settlement reached in Nassar sex abuse scandal

Hundreds of women sexually abused by disgraced gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar have tentatively agreed to a $500 million settlement with Michigan State University, Nassar’s former employer, attorneys for both sides said. The deal calls for the school to pay $425 million to the 332 victims represented in current litigation, with another $75 million set aside in a trust fund which could go to future plaintiffs, the attorneys said in a joint statement.

WFI Punishes Phogat Sisters for Skipping National Camp

No Asiad for Phogats

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), tired of the Phogat sisters’ alleged “tantrums and indiscipline”, has dropped all four Phogat sisters — Gita, Babita, Ritu and Sangeeta — from the national camp for the Asian Games.
They will not be allowed to take part in the Asiad trials scheduled for later this month, which would effectively end their hopes of representing the country in the Jakarta Palembang Games to be held in Indonesia in August-September later this year. The trials are open for only those wrestlers who are part of the camp.
WFI, which was earlier criticised for going soft on Geeta and Babita despite complaints of indiscipline, has acted tough on the latest act of indiscretion – skipping the national camp in Lucknow made mandatory by the federation to prepare for the Games. All four have been issued show cause notice with the WFI seeking explanation for their latest breach.
