The SGPC too has decided to initiate legal action against the makers of ‘Manmarziyaan’, as the community has objected to showing a Sikh girl (played by Taapsee Pannu) and a Sikh boy (played by Abhishek Bachchan )smoking. Demanding an immediate ban on the screening of the film, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said a legal notice would be sent to the director and producer for hurting Sikh sentiments.
He said such blunders could have been prevented, had there been a Sikh representative on the Central Board of Film Certification. Aanand L Rai production ‘Manmarziyaan’, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan, is directed by Anurag Kashyap.
Members of the Sikh community have expressed unhappiness over a scene in the recently released film ‘Manmarziyaan’, in which Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, who have been playing the roles of a Sikh couple, have been shown smoking. Members of the community submitted memorandums to City Magistrates in Ambala, Patiala and at a number of other places, demanding a stop to screening of the film, following which theatre owners have stopped screening.
