Ford of Canada, the official automotive partner of the Toronto Raptors and creator of the Ford Drills & Skills program, is pleased to announce that the Malton Mavericks Major Atom Girls have been selected to visit Air Canada Centre for a rare opportunity to train like a professional basketball player as the Grand Prize winner in the Ford Drills & Skills competition.

“This year, the Ford Drills & Skills program recognizes 16 youth minor basketball teams from across Southern Ontario for their dedication to their communities and charitable contributions,” said Sarah Rae, national partnerships manager, Ford of Canada. “Ford of Canada is proud to support players by inviting them to practice on the same court their hometown team plays on, sharpening their skills and providing them with valuable, relevant knowledge.”

“The entire Malton Mavericks team is very excited to spend a day training like their basketball heroes,” said coach Lee Davis. “The kids have done so much work in giving back to our local community and it’s nice to see they’re being rewarded with such a great experience offered by Ford of Canada and the Toronto Raptors.”

Grand prize winners will participate in a variety of skill-building sessions on June 25, 2016 at Air Canada Centre, including:

Skills Development

Train Like a Raptor (Physical Fitness and Conditioning)

Eat Like a Raptor (Nutrition)

Teams will also have a visit from a Raptors alumnus. Jerome “Junk Yard Dog” Williams visited the kids last year… who knows who will stop by this year to join the kids!

The Malton Mavericks proudly support Burton Manor Retirement Home and Home for the Girls in the Philippines. The team ran a food drive and volunteered at a Brampton retirement home, as well as fundraised for a charity dedicated to assisting young girls in the Philippines who have experienced neglect or abuse.
