Letter to the Editor-Nothing more Canadian than flag and Charter as per General Social Survey

As an Indo-Canadian who immigrated to Canada exactly 41 years ago at this time I was very happy to read above captioned findings of the newly released General Social Survey ,which determined that more than nine in ten Canadians believe the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom and the flag are important symbols of the Canadian identity.

After reading this in the afternoon I went to TD Canada Trust branch at 2890 Major Mackenzie East in Markham for my regular banking and there on desk I saw some printed materials of banking services they offer to customers and in one container some pins of “I Love Canada”. I picked some for myself and my grandkids to wear to show respect of our beautiful land of Canada. To my dismay when I gave to them at dinner time at my daughter’s place on the back it was printed “Made in China”. I was very upset as TD Bank in spite of making huge profits year by year can’t afford to buy Made in Canada pins and that too of “I Love Canada”?

Shame on those in-charge of TD Bank public relation department who took the decision to buy Made in China pins.

How can we expect our country’s GDP go up and  unemployment to go down when big corporations and other companies cannot encourage and support Canadian products and businesses. I thought of taking picture of these pins and at the same time as a proud Indo-Canadian I proudly display Canadian flag on our front porch glass enclosure.

The above stated survey righty says that immigrants generally hold the strongest feelings of pride in being Canadian and in Canadian achievements. Last but not least on upcoming Thanksgiving I convey holiest wishes to all. I landed my first job three weeks after immigrating to Canada at Scotia bank on Thanksgiving weekend which has special significance in our life. God bless Canada.
