WINNIPEG ….Conservative Party of Canada leadership candidate Dr. Daniel Lindsay officially launched his campaign on Friday with a major policy announcement on health care.
At a rally of supporters in Winnipeg on Friday night, Lindsay revealed a three-step plan including the revamp of the Canada Health Act and immediate action to improve the health outcomes for Canada’s Metis, Inuit and First Nations members.
“The Canada Health Act is an antique piece of legislation that is constraining the ability of provinces and health care professionals to be innovative and to increase capacity to meet Canadian’s health care needs.,” Daniel Lindsay said. “And as we do that, I will take immediate steps to work with First Nations partners to develop world-class clinical facilities on First Nations land to provide health care services and offer added capacity for provincial health care systems. “
First Nations lands are purposely excluded under the Canada Health Act. While consultation and review are ongoing to replace the legislation, action can happen quickly to meet the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
“We must have a strategy for the care of First Nations communities whose health outcomes are measurably less than other Canadians, but also to offer highly skilled training and jobs for members, ” added Lindsay. “I am the only candidate with proven and real world health care experience and a realistic plan to address the health care issues we face.”
The three-step plan also includes working with provinces and First Nations to be innovative and find efficiencies in health care operations. More information on the health care plan is available at daniellindsay.ca.
