The Latvian government is working on legislation that would ban face-covering veils from public spaces, a report said. The Baltic nation’s population of 2 million includes 1,000 practising Muslims. Only a handful of Muslim women -apparently three -wear the niqab. But for Latvia’s Ministry of Justice, three niqabs too many. The government cited security concerns and a desire to protect culture for considering the ban, which could be in place in 2017. Students at a Paris varsity sparked a row by inviting classmates to wear the veil on `Hijab Day’ in a bid to demystify a practice viewed as divisive in France.
