Scarborough – Tonight, NDP Candidate Neethan Shan attended a debate hosted by the group, Concerned Ontario Doctors, to discuss healthcare priorities in Scarborough-Rouge River.  Kathleen Wynne’s candidate was not in attendance to answer community questions.

“It was a pleasure to discuss healthcare in Scarborough-Rouge River.  It is so important for voters to have the chance to ask the candidates in this byelection about where we stand on our hospitals.  Our families and our communities depend on them,” Shan said.

The issues raised at tonight’s debate included overcrowding at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital, long ER wait times, and the aging operating rooms at the Scarborough Hospital’s general site.

“My community of Scarborough has been represented by a government MPP for a long time, but where has it gotten us?” asked Shan.

“Our acute care beds are running at dangerously crowded levels and we wait longer in our emergency rooms that most people in the province.  People are waiting for surgeries in seriously outdated operating rooms built in the 1950’s. That does not show respect for my community.”

”Kathleen Wynne’s representative avoided tonight’s public debate, just as Kathleen Wynne herself has avoided public visits to the riding.  She has shown a lack of respect for the people in Scarborough, particularly those who were in the room tonight to address serious healthcare concerns,” Shan said.
