Iran has executed a teen rape victim who was abused by her husband and convicted of killing him in a “grossly unfair trial”, Amnesty International said. An ethnic Kurd, Zeinab Sekaanvand was 15 when she got married. She was jailed two years later, while still legally a juvenile, for killing her husband. She later retracted her confession, saying it had been extracted under duress.

UK regulator roasts coffee chain’s avocado-bashing advertisement

Britain’s biggest coffee house chain has been banned from repeating an ad that implied their breakfast deals were a better bet than eating an avocado. The Advertising Standards Authority regulator found that the Costa Coffee ad discouraged the selection of fresh fruit. The advertisement said avocados would be “hard as rock for the first 18 days, three hours and 20 minutes, then they’ll be ready to eat, for about 10 minutes, then they’ll go off,” before encouraging consumers to head to Costa Coffee for a bacon roll or egg muffin instead for breakfast.

Copter jailbreak gangster arrested in France

French police has arrested a gangster who had been on the run for three months after a Hollywood-style helicopter jailbreak. Redoine Faid (46) was arrested along with four other people in a raid on an apartment north of Paris.
