International Yoga Day Canada (www.iydc.ca) celebrated the 2nd Annual International Day of Yoga today at the Port Credit Memorial Park in Mississauga, Ontario with the support of Consulate General of India and in partnership with The Mississauga Waterfront Festival (www.themwf.com) from 9 am till Noon.
United Nations declared June 21st of each year (the summer solstice) was going to be celebrated as the Day of Yoga.  Over 180 countries are participating in the event this year.  Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, was instrumental in obtaining this recognition for Yoga.
In a speech broadcast on the giant screens at the park, Mr. Modi said that the ancient practice of Yoga not only improves physical health but also mental focus and general well being.
At a VIP reception held prior to the start of the event, IYDC acknowledged the presence of Consul General Dinesh Bhatia and Mayor Bonnie Crombie who spoke about the importance of Yoga in today’s hectic world.
IYDC thanked their sponsors CIBC, Superstore and SBI Bank Canada for their support and MWF for their incredible partnership.
The event started with Yogic Jogging, Sun Salutation and Pranayama performed by the Patanjali Group followed by Meditation by Brahmakumaris.  WAYS got the audience on their feet with Tree Pose and Trikonasana.  Yoga Vision brought fun into the morning routine by getting everyone to participate in Laughter Yoga.  Presentations concluded with Patanjali Youth performing for the youth.
