Inquest into the Death of Réjean Bernier Announced

Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Ottawa Office,  announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Réjean Bernier.

Mr. Bernier, 61, died on July 17, 2014, as the result of injuries sustained while working on a construction site in Ottawa. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bernier’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three days and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at the Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. West, Keefer Room. Dr. John Earle will preside as inquest coroner and Marie Dufort will be counsel to the coroner.
