We see it everyday! Volunteers leading neighbourhood activities, lifting the collective confidence to solve common issues. Volunteers visiting people, lifting their spirits and keeping them connected. Volunteers coaching sports teams, lifting community pride and creating lifelong bonds.
National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a time to celebrate and thank Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers.
And at Indus, we take pride in celebrating our very own special band of volunteers who over the years have selflessly given their time, efforts and dedication to serve our clients and help build a stronger community! At our Annual Volunteer Recognition Evening held on April 8th, 2019, we celebrated the over 10,984 hours of service our volunteers have dedicated over the years to our agency and the community.
Mandeep Grewal, Board Chair and Gurpreet Malhotra, CEO,welcomed the gathering and thanked the volunteers for their priceless gift of time and energy and for choosing Indus as their agency of choice to volunteer with. All were presented with a Volunteer Recognition Certificate and a token of appreciation.
“When I came to Canada in 2011, I received a lot of help. Now, volunteering my time with Indus is my way of giving back to the community” said Durgesh Khatavakar, a volunteer with the Community Connections program, a program that matches and connects newcomers with Volunteer Mentors.
Indus Community Services is proud of its volunteers. Volunteers assist in performing various tasks such as translation, administrative work, outreach, fundraising, interpretation and help in various programs. Our volunteers include high school students, youth, seniors, college and university students, retirees, and newcomers.
