The Toronto Independent Music Awards is a homegrown annual song competition with an entrepreneurial spirit. It was created in 2004 to support independent Canadian musicians across the Province of Ontario. The TIMAs acknowledge and celebrate songs in a variety of genres without regard to recording quality, industry affiliation or sales history. The TIMAs are supported by Canadian and international music industry professionals, accomplished recording artists, broadcasters, and most of all – music fans and aficionados.

Now in its 12th season, the TIMAs have given away over $350,000 in custom prize packages. The TIMAs have been the platform for independent musicians to network, attain tools for success and be discovered for over a decade.

12th Annual Toronto Independent Music Awards Gala and Festival will be at Revival, located at 783 College St, Toronto, ON, on Friday, September 30, 2016. at 8:30PM. Advance tickets will be available on Ticketscene until Friday, September 30, 2016 5:29 PM unless the event sells out earlier.

Vandana is no stranger to listeners of south Asian music as she is adored for her flawless voice, pure notes and crisp diction of south Asian languages which is rare outside of the Indian subcontinent. She is also one of the few original south Asian music composers and producers in Canada who are revered in India. Formally trained in Indian Classical music and an All India Radio artist since childhood, Vandana Vishwas is an Architect by profession which she pursued for more than 22 years. However, a couple of years back she quit her high paying job to devote her full time and attention to her passion – music. In the short time that Vandana has entered the music scene in Canada, she has already created ripples with awards such as US Indies Vox-Pop, Mississauga Arts Council’s Marty award, Toronto Exclusive Magazine’s Toronto Best World CD award, Indo-Canadian Arts & Culture Initiative’s  Woman Hero award, and has been nominated for Canadian Indies, OAC’s KM Hunter award and many more apart from the TIMA awards noted above.

Vandana has released two critically acclaimed self composed and produced original music albums ‘Meera The Lover’ and ‘Monologues’, and a single ‘Samarasiddha’ to date. Her third full length album, which she says is ‘very very different’ from the first two is due to be released in next couple of months. She is keeping the album name a secret but reveals that it features diverse mainstream Canadian musicians including a Grammy winning artist. She is scheduled to tour United Kingdom and India this winter following the release of the album.
