INDIA’S WORLD T20, ASIA CUP TEAMS TO BE PICKED ON FRIDAY

The Indian squads for the upcoming Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh and the subsequent ICC T20 World Cup will be picked on February 5 by the national selection panel headed by Sandeep Patil. India would play a three game T20 series at home against Sri Lanka from February 9, ahead of the multi-nation T20 events. The Asia Cup is slated to be held from February 24 to March 6, while the T20 bash will begin on March 8.

 

Neymar hit with fraud proceedings in Brazil

Brazil’s star striker Neymar suffered a fresh legal blow when Brazilian prosecutors filed a tax fraud and forgery case against him. The 23-year-old and his family have denied any wrongdoing over alleged irregularities in his superstar signing for Barcelona in 2013. But hours after he gave testimony in Spain in one case, a new front opened up as federal prosecutors in Brazil launched proceedings against him and his father. Investigators in both the countries suspect Neymar’s family and the club hid the real value of the deal under which Barcelona signed him from Brazilian side Santos. Barcelona valued the transfer at about 57 million euros, but Spanish authorities think it added up to more than 83 million euros.

Federer out for month after knee surgery

Roger Federer underwent a “successful” surgery on his knee today and will be ruled out of action for one month, his agent said. Federer underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus sustained the day after his semifinal match at the Australian Open, according to Tony Godsick. As a result of the surgery, Federer will now miss the ATP tournaments in Rotterdam and Dubai this month.

 

 

Golden State Warriors headed to the White House

President Barack Obama will honor the  NBA champion Golden State Warriors  at the White House.

The Warriors captured the 2014-15 NBA title with a 4-2 series victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA finals, securing the team’s fourth championship in franchise history and first in 40 years (1974-75).

The defending champions opened the season with 24 consecutive wins, earning the best start to a season in NBA history.

 

 

Tony Stewart hospitalized

A non-racing accident has  landed Tony Stewart in the hospital.

His NASCAR team — Stewart-Haas Racing — released a statement  afternoon saying the three-time NASCAR champion was transported to a hospital following the accident.

Fox Sports reported that Stewart, 44, crashed an all-terrain vehicle in the San Diego area. The press release said Stewart was awake and alert and able to move his legs and arms.

The driver of the No. 14 car, Stewart has announced this will be his season.

The Sprint Cup season kicks off Feb. 21 with the Daytona 500, and Stewart is due to participate in the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona on Feb. 13.

Stewart sustained a double compound fracture of his right leg in 2013. In 2014, he was involved in a sprint-car crash that killed another driver who had left his car and was on the track.
