Being a popular Indian actor in international cinema comes with expectations. And Irrfan Khan is aware of these pressures. “I’m the one who has created these standards, and I’m happy as that’s what I expect of myself. I can’t do formula films. I can do one or two, maybe as timepass, but I can’t keep doing such films. I have to do movies that stay with me,” the actor told a leading TV channel from India. He is awaiting the release of his Hollywood film, co-starring Tom Hanks. Irrfan believes a film should “speak to the audience” once they leave the theatre. “That’s what I’ve been trying to do. It is a great thing when people have expectations of you. We’ve a fantastic young audience. I exist because of them,” he says. According to him, this phase began with Paan Singh Tomar (2012).
