Green tech start-ups pitch investors at Innovation4D event in Mississauga

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie presented a certificate of recognition to executives of GreenCentre Canada (GCC), the Research Innovation Commercialization Centre (RICC) and the Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) at the inaugural Innovation4D event at the XRCC’s Innovation Hub in Mississauga.
Innovation4D was organized by the Innovation Hub and partners to provide Ontario green tech start-ups with the opportunity to pitch venture capitalists on their innovations. The Hon. Reza Moridi, Minister of Research, Innovation and Science, along with Mayor Bonnie Crombie were on hand to open the event. The Innovation Hub was recently cited as one reason for Toronto’s place on the list of Top 10 Cities for Corporate Innovation.
Tech Boost Coming to Bramptons’ Public Library

In June 2017, Ontario announced it would be investing $3 million through the Improving Library Digital Services fund to support up to 307 libraries and library organizations across the province. This includes $1 million for rural, remote and First Nation public libraries through Budget Talks.
• Brampton Public Library is receiving $59,560
• Libraries will determine how their funding will be used, based on specific local needs.
• This investment builds on a commitment in Ontario’s Culture Strategy to support Ontario’s public and First Nation libraries as essential spaces for people to access cultural experiences, technology and community life.
• Every year, Ontario’s 1,134 library service locations receive more than 72 million in-person visits and 108 million electronic visits.
• Since 2013, the Ontario government has provided more than $136 million in funding for public and First Nation public libraries.
• The province first announced Ontario Public Library Week in 1985. This year, it takes place from October 15-21.

Ontario is making it easier for people in Brampton to stay connected by increasing access to technology, digital services and training opportunities at local public libraries.

The province is supporting Brampton Public Library in Brampton to give local residents better access to resources such as Wi-Fi hot spot lending programs, computers, printers, e-readers and technology-focused training.
“Our libraries provide accessible services to the people of Brampton. This investment will support Brampton Public Library to make services even better and continue to enrich people’s lives right here in our own community,” said Harinder Malhi, MPP, Brampton-Springdale.

Improving digital resources and services in rural, remote and First Nation public libraries was one of the top three ideas selected by people during Budget Talks, the consultations for the 2017 Ontario Budget. Ontario has expanded on what was heard during the budget consultations and extended this support to all public libraries in the province.
