Last month, the Seva Food Bank served # clients. The impact it had in the community, however, is something that can’t be measured.

The Seva Food Bank (an initiative of Sikhs Serving Canada) provides nutritious and culturally-appropriate food to low-income families residing in seven postal codes across Mississauga. Alongside attempting to establish food security in families across the city, Seva coordinates programming aimed towards helping our clients address the root causes of poverty. Since its launch in 2010, the non-profit has established an expansive community of volunteers, donors, and clientele. We are honoured to receive over 600 families each month, and in turn, provide over 40,000 pounds of food. Through the support services we provide to our clients, we work towards our mission of positively impacting our local communities and creating hubs of collaboration at our two locations.

Over the past few years, Seva has rapidly grown to be recognized as more than a typical food bank. A source of support and guidance in the very community it operates, Seva is a place people can turn to when they don’t know where else to go. As our purpose has expanded, so has our drive to achieve excellence in the services and opportunities we provide to those in need.

Without the support of people from our city and around the world, Seva would be nowhere close to the organization it is today. It’s why we try to provide a wide range of opportunities to give back to the community. From volunteering to becoming a monthly donor, there are many ways to pass on your good fortune into the lives of others. A new and meaningful way of showing your support is holding your own ‘Seva Day’. Through a financial contribution of $500, you allow us to keep our doors open on your Seva Day, and serve our clients with the level of respect and understanding they deserve. You are invited to either of our locations (Wolfedale Rd. and Slough St.) to assist with clients and warehouse operations, and to learn how your time and money are making an impact. You may dedicate the day to the loss of a loved one, a particular anniversary, or for any memory you wish to be recognized.

On behalf of our clients, we thank you for your support. It goes to show how the good deed of one individual can brighten the lives of hundreds.
