Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is penning a book on mind games in sport even though he considers authoring books a nightmare. “To sit and write, dictate someone, then correct it and make sure it’s on time with the publisher, it’s a nightmare,” said Ganguly. “I was chased for a long time but I’m not a great writer. I’ve been asked to write a book on mind games in sport.”

Gatorade signs India’s Neeraj as brand ambassador

In what could be a first for an Indian track and field athlete, junior world record holder javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was named as brand ambassador by sports drinks giant Gatorade until 2021. Commenting on the association, Neeraj said, “I am honoured to join the Gatorade family of athletes, which consists of sporting legends from across the world.” Neeraj burst on the scene when his gold medal effort in the 2016 IAAF World U-20 Championships saw him set the world junior record with a massive throw of 86.48m in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Wicketkeeping great Adam Gilchrist has called on Australian selectors to pick and stick when they decide who will be behind the stumps for the upcoming Ashes series. Three players are seen as being in the mix to take the gloves — and also provide middle-order batting stability — ahead of the first Test against England in Brisbane on November 23. They include the current incumbent Matthew Wade, who has struggled with the bat, his predecessor Peter Nevill, who was axed 12 months ago, and the fast-improving Alex Carey. “Whoever they pick, they just need to give them a good run at it,” he said.

Russian skiers get life bans

Russia’s cross country gold medallist Alexander Legkov and compatriot Evgeniy Belov were banned from the Olympics for life  over doping at the Sochi 2014 winter Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said. The two athletes were the first Russians to be sanctioned for anti-doping rule violations following an IOC investigation into allegations of widespread doping among Russians and sample tampering by lab and security officials to give them the edge.

Westbrook stars for Oklahoma Thunder

Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 28 points but reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook claimed bragging rights as the Oklahoma City Thunder thumped the Milwaukee Bucks 110-9.  American Westbrook finished just shy of his fourth triple double of the season, scoring 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and collecting nine assists for the Thunder.
