Ganguly files complaint following death threat

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly took the anonymous death threat seriously and lodged a complaint at the local police station. His mother Nirupa Ganguly has been scared by the death threat. So she didn’t want his son to go outside of the city.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president received a death threat on Tuesday according to Kolkata police. A senior police officer of Kolkata police confirmed that Ganguly has lodged an official complaint at Thakur Pukur police station on Tuesday.

“We are looking into the matter. We are checking whether it’s a genuine or fake letter. Our officers are examining the letter,” the senior officer was quoted as saying

Ganguly received an unidentified death threat letter at his Behala home forbidding him from attending a felicitation function at Midnapore. He received the latter on Saturday.

As per reports legendary Indian cricketer was scheduled to visit Midnapore on 19th January for an inter-college cricket tournament at the Vidyasagar University. A close confidant of Ganguly family confirmed that Sourav Ganguly’s mother Nirupa warning her son against attending the tournament where he was invited as a chief guest.

“Your son is hereby warned not to attend the programme. If he dares to come here, you will not see him again,” is what has been written in the letter.

When Ganguly was asked by median in India about this death threat, he said, “Yes I’ve received the letter on January 7 and I’ve informed this to the police and the organisers. Ganguly though hasn’t decided yet whether he will be attending the function or not. “Let us see, nothing has been decided yet. You all will come to know if I go there.”
