Cutting gas price too on agenda
Premier-designate Doug Ford is likely to recall the legislature next month for the summer session that could be a shorter session than the usual to end the York University strike. He also intends to work for reducing the gas prices. “We’re going to move forward relatively quickly. I’ll be back to you on that in the next few days,” Ford told reporters at Queen’s Park. Doug Ford will officially take over on June 29th and the new premier and the cabinet will be sworn in on the same day.
“We want to make sure we get this transition done and talk to the rest of our team, talk to our caucus members, but we want to move relatively quickly on a lot of items that are urgent,” Ford shared with media person. As per reports, the top priority is ending the four-month long strike by 3,000 odd contract faculty, teaching assistants at York University.
Ford would be eager to implement his planned 10-cents-per-litre reduction in gas prices. He is hoping to achieve that by cutting the provincial excise tax and scrapping Ontario’s cap-and-trade program with Quebec and California.
