In the history of literature, first time ever, a float giving great honour and respect to the literature and to the writers and poets, with full dedication and in the best suited glamour will be seen in the streets of Toronto at Nathan Phillip Square on August 20th, 2017 in the India Day parade during the Indian Independence Day Celebrations.
Outside India, this float titled “Sahitya Rath” (The Literature Chariot) is going to be the first ever Literature Chariot depicting the pictures of old times writers and poets with an objective to make them known to our younger generation. This way it will create an interest in their minds to know their oldtime scriptures, history and literarians. The float will be decorated with banners around the float depicting pictures of the old, medival and modern time writers and poets of Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, English, Marathi, Bengali, Rajasthani and more of the Indian languages.
“Sahitya Rath” is a unique concept brought into existance by Prof. Saran Ghai, Founder-President of Canada based “Vishva Hindi Sansthan Cultural Organization”. The first ever “Sahitya Rath” came into being in Doongarpur, Rajasthan, India during the Reputlic Day Celebrations on January 26, 2017 inspired by this organization.
The thought behind the “Sahitya Rath” is to make the poets and writers be known to the common person on the street. The irony is, a person who can change the destiny of the world by his pen remains the most unknown person.
The poets sitting on this float, will be reciting poetry during the procession and this way in real means it will be in true sense a poetry in motion’, which is another beautiful aspect behind this literature chariot. “Sahitya Rath” will carry these great people through the masses where they can shake hands, talk and know each other.
Celebrations of the Indian Independence Day will start at 10 AM and the India Day Parade will start at 2 PM till 4 PM. As there is a limited capacity to sit on the float, only the poets of the age 70 and above will be permitted to sit on the float.
Poets of Indian origin of different languages living in Toronto, Canada are requested to register their names for poetry recital ASAP, so as the lists be prepared and sent to the organizers. Your poetry should be based be patriotic and for your country of origin (India)> It has be short, limited to 3 minitues.
