Facebook shuts 583 million fake accounts

Facebook axed 583 million fake accounts in the first three months of 2018, the social media giant has said, detailing how it enforces “community standards” against sexual or violent images, terrorist propaganda or hate speech. Facebook said those closures came on top of blocking millions of attempts to create fake accounts every day. Despite this, the group said fake profiles still make up 3-4 per cent of all active accounts.

Nurses don’t want ‘Zuckerberg’ in hospital name

A handful of nurses sick of scandal over Facebook user privacy want a new prescription for a hospital named after the social network’s co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. The Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center said it added his name as a way of saying thanks after the Facebook chief and his doctor wife, Priscilla Chan, made a $75 million donation three years ago. This past weekend, however, a “very small group” of people demonstrated to call for the Zuckerberg name to be removed because of privacy scandals at Facebook, a hospital spokesman said.
