England seamer Wood fit for Third Test

England fast bowler Mark Wood has been passed fit for next week’s Third Test against South Africa at The Oval after scans revealed no serious injury on his left heel. Wood has been blighted by injuries throughout his career, with ankle problems keeping him out of Test cricket for nearly two years from October 2015, with the seamer only making his comeback at Lord’s two weeks ago.

Herath topples Ashwin to be 2nd

A 10-wicket haul against Zimbabwe helped Sri Lanka left-arm spinner Rangana Herath get pass India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and take the second spot in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Test bowlers rankings, released in Dubai. Herath moved within 32 points of top-ranked Ravindra Jadeja of India. Among the Test batsmen, Australia skipper Steve Smith continues to rule the chart, followed by England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.India’s Cheteshwar Pujara is at the fourth spot while Virat Kohli completes the top five.

US Open to break $50m barrier

Prize money at this year’s US Open will top $50 million, organisers have confirmed once again making the tournament the richest event in tennis. The tournament purse had been increased by $4 million, taking it up to $50.4 million in total.The winners of the men’s and women’s singles will each pocket $3.7 million, while prize money for each round would increase by an average of 7.5 percent compared to 2016.

Fixing hits Wimbledon, US Open matches

Matches at Wimbledon and the French Open triggered alerts for potential match-fixing in the second quarter of the year, the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) said on Thursday.

It said in a statement that one match at Roland Garros and three at Wimbledon, two of them in the qualifying tournament and one in the main draw, would be assessed and reviewed.

Chelsea agree deal with Real for Morata

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has reached an agreement with Chelsea and will move to Premier League champions. “Chelsea Football Club and Real Madrid have agreed terms for the transfer of Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge. The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical,” Chelsea said in a statement relapsed to media.  Morata is at the Madrid training camp in the United States. He was signed for a fee reported to be 80 million euros.
