Education leader Laura Mae Lindo Secures NDP nomination in Kitchener Centre

KITCHENER – Laura Mae Lindo, Wilfrid Laurier University’s Director of Diversity and Equity, will be the NDP’s candidate in Kitchener Centre in the 2018 provincial election.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Andrea Horwath, local MPP Catherine Fife and a strong Ontario NDP team,” said Lindo. “The party has made bold commitments that will make life easier for families — and I think people in our community are looking forward to electing a government that’s on their side, for once.”

She pointed to Horwath’s plan to lower hydro bills by at least 30 per cent and the NDP Pharmacare proposal – which would be the country’s first universal Pharmacare program, providing prescription drug coverage to everyone, regardless of age, income or health history.

Lindo holds a PhD in Education and currently serves as Wilfrid Laurier University’s Director of Diversity and Equity. She is a strong advocate for youth and has focused much of her career on addressing the systemic challenges that are faced by communities of colour as well as other marginalized groups. Lindo said she’s ready to take her passion for improving the education system to the legislature.

Lindo was nominated June 22 at a meeting of local New Democrats from Kitchener.
