Arun Govil and Sunil Lahiri, the screen deities of the 1980s, invested Rs 2 crore each in an Oshiwara project that allegedly never took off

Even the `gods’ are not spared by the builders. Actors Arun Govil and Sunil Lahiri, whose portrayals of Lord Ram and Lakshman respectively in Ramanand Sagar’s TV series Ramayan elevated them to the status of screen deities in the 1980s, have filed a police complaint saying they haven’t received possession of apartments despite paying for the same seven years ago.

In the complaint, fsub mitted to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), the two have accused two developers -Shri Shubh and Sonata Realty ­ of not even starting the construction of a highrise in Oshiwara, despite collecting around Rs 2crore per 2BHK apartment. “We invested in the project in 2009 and were told that the apartments would be handed over in 2013. It was supposed to be a 40-storey building next to Lokhandwala Complex. The project kept getting delayed, and the builders have abscond ed,“ the complaint said. As per reports, Sonata Realty is owned by a small-time film maker, Azam Khan, who was arrested in a land transfer case, while the owners of Shri Shubh Builders too are facing similar allegations.
