‘Dangal’ beats ‘PK’ to be the highest grosser

PK>Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’ has overthrown his own film ‘PK’ at the box-office, and has become the highest grossing Bollywood film ever. With this Aamir has three films in top five highest grossers – ‘Dangal’, ‘PK’ and ‘Dhoom 3’.

‘Dangal’ which has entered its fourth week in theatres, collected a total of Rs 345.30 crore by its third weekend, over taking 2014 release ‘PK’, which had earned Rs 340. 8 crore in its lifetime run. The wrestling drama is also set to be the first film to cross the Rs 350 mark.

Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Dangal collects a WHOPPING Rs 31.79 cr in Weekend 3… [Week 3] Fri 6.66 cr, Sat 10.80 cr, Sun 14.33 cr. Total: Rs 345.30 cr. India biz. ATBB.”3

‘Dangal’ has been on a record-breaking spree since its release on December 23. It became the first ever film to collect over Rs 40 crore in a single day, with its first Sunday (Dec 25) earnings of Rs 42.35 crore. Then with a phenomenal figure of Rs 31.27 crore on its second Sunday (Jan 1), ‘Dangal’ yet again marked the highest collection on Day 10.

The movie has also performed exceptionally well in international markets. It was also released in Tamil and Telugu languages.

Directed by Nitish Tiwari, ‘Dangal’ is a biopic on the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, father and first coach of Indian women wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari Phogat.
