A Kerala couple, who had hit the headlines last year for organising the `Kiss of Love’ event last year to protest against moral policing, were arrested for allegedly being a part of an online sex racket. Rahul Pashupalan, 29, and his model wife Resmi R Nair are among 12 people arrested in a pre-dawn swoop Operation Big Daddy conducted at various places in the state.
The couple came under the radar of cybercrime officers after the latter started tracking a Facebook page named Kochu Sundarigal (young beautiful girls) and other social media on suspicion of involvement in a sex ring. The online pursuit led the cops to kingpin Abdul Khader, alias Akbar of Kasargode. Acting as decoy customers, the police contacted him and settled for Resmi and two minor girls. The customers were to be handed over Resmi and the girls at a hotel in Er nakulum after midnight on Tuesday.While Resmi came with Rahul and their son, a woman identified as Lineesh Mathew, brought the minor girls. Two women members of the gang managed to flee after threatening to crash their car into a police vehicle. Resmi’s Facebook page described her as an Indian bikini model. She has worked with many fashion magazines.She was a finalist of Playboy’s Miss Social 2014 beauty pageant.
A year ago, the `Kiss of Love’ protest took off on Facebook in Kerala to raise voice against moral policing. After a group of youth participated in the programme at Marine Drive in Cochin, the concept spread across the country.
