It’s summer and there’s nothing like farm fresh fruits and vegetables! So what better way to shop and have some fun than a trip to the Brampton Farmers’ Market? Located in Downtown Brampton, the Brampton Farmers’ Market is open from 7 am to 1 pm every Saturday until Thanksgiving, rain or shine. If you are looking for some top quality products directly from the person who produced it, then this is the place to be. Visit and you will be greeted by an array of fresh-picked produce, baked goods, meat, cheese, eggs and more. This year, the market has expanded into Ken Whillans Square and Main Street south of John Street and has five new organic farmers who bring an assortment of produce, including organic tomatillos! Three of these organic farmers are from the McVean start-up farm located in Brampton, which provides a farm incubator program for people from non-farming backgrounds to enter the sector. McVean is home to many new Canadians who grow food for their communities, including Bhupinder Kaul, who has had great success bringing his diverse crops to the Brampton Farmers’ Market.
The market is not just a place to shop, but also a place where farmers have the opportunity to connect with consumers who love what they sell and appreciate their hard work. It is an important source of income that helps farmers keep on doing what they love to do, so that we can keep on enjoying fresh local food. Also a part of McVean is Adam Reid from Back to Basics Farm who likes to educate people that farmers feed families and encourages residents to discover the variety of vegetables Brampton offers. “Seems a lot more personal to me knowing that my naturally grown fresh food will be prepared and eaten by families who care as much as I do on where their food comes from,” says Reid. The market offers more than just food. Take some time to visit the Art in the Open artisans and crafters in Garden Square. You will find original hand-crafted artwork such as paintings, pottery, finely crafted jewellery, ceramics, custom woodworking, unique floral and hand painted designs, and more. And when done shopping or if you need a breather, just relax and enjoy the live entertainment between10 am and 12 pm in Garden Square With weekly entertainment, family-friendly activities and a thriving vendor marketplace, the Brampton Farmers’ Market is the place to be on Saturday mornings!
