Kapil vs Krushna: Viewers trash ‘Comedy Nights Live’

Kiku Sharda (who essayed the role of Palak in Comedy Nights With Kapil): It is his viewpoint. We have respected the channel and the channel has respected the talent. I don’t know if someone has told him something. The entire fraternity has a lot of respect for Kapil, he is the biggest comic talent in the country. Whatever you say is not going to take away from Kapil. The whole Krushna-Bharti gang is very talented. This is just a passing phase. Rashami Desai (who mocked Kapil’s famous Babaji ka Thullu gesture in the first episode of Comedy Nights Live): All the other actors are doing it too. I don’t think Kapil will mind it because he takes everything in a sporting manner. He himself is so spontaneous that I am sure he understands everything about comedy very well.

On the very first episode of Comedy Nights Live (CNL), host Krushna Abhishek couldn’t help but take potshots at comedian Kapil Sharma and his show Comedy Nights With Kapil (CNWK). The show’s guest, actor Madhuri Dixit Nene, was also party to the jokes. When Madhuri asked Krushna why he was sitting on the floor, he replied, “Jab main bada aadmi ban jaunga tab akad ke upar baithunga,” he said while pointing towards Kapil’s chair. Bharti Singh, another comedian, came as the son of Bitoo Sharma (Kapil’s character in CNWK). Recently, even actor Salman Khan slammed Kapil’s show. “Ab woh show nahi raha. Ab ek aur show aa raha hai, usse better aur usse bhari,” he said at the season finale of Bigg Boss.

Meanwhile, Krushna has lashed out at Kapil calling him “insecure” and running away from competition.

Comedy Nights with Kapil is already over and a new show ‘Comedy Nights Live’ has taken its place. This new show is hosted by Krushna Abhishek and Bharti Singh. The first episode has already been telecast and fans are not happy with the show as much as they were happy with Kapil’s show. Some fans had huge expectations from the show while others were already convinced that this show has nothing to offer as Kapil is nowhere in the scene. Now, Colors CEO Raj Nayak, for the first time, has  opened up about the whole matter and why the show went off air. In an interview to a tabloid from New Delhi, Nayak said, “Kapil Sharma was on television for over 10 years, first on Laughter Challenge and then on Comedy Circus before he did Comedy Nights with us. He is a nice person and is extremely talented. We gave him a platform and co-created Comedy Nights with him. It was the channel’s decision to call it Comedy Nights With Kapil, as we felt that it would give him a sense of ownership and his loyalty to the show would be 100%.We even helped him set up his production company . The success of the show meant that we had a person who suddenly became a star and found it difficult to manage his success. He started renegotiating and asking for more money which we gave, but the more important and worrying thing was that he violated his contract by hosting shows on competitive channels in spite of having an exclusive contract with Colors for TV , which we felt was not ethical.”

Nayak also expressed how tough it was for the channel to let go of Kapil and his show. He said, “In a normal course, no channel would let go of a good show. But it has to also be economically viable and more importantly, business s has to be conducted in an ethical manner. For many reasons, the decision to let Kapil go has been very tough. It has been an emotional show for us. Together, Kapil and our creative team created magic. He is extremely talented, probably one of the best of this genre. We never asked him to go. He was not happy with us and implied that we couldn’t have another comedy show on the channel. That was unacceptable to us. He chose to walk out. He is a nice guy being misled, I guess, by the people around him for their own survival. I am very fond of him and feel really sad to see him go.”
