Salman’ father Salim Khan finally broke his silence and took a dig at Milkha Singh in a series of tweets. He tweeted#Salman khan may not have competed but is an A level swimmer cyclist and weight lifter
#Sportsmen are performing because of sports lovers like us.
On Salman’s selection, Milkha Singh had said that sports personalities like PT Usha should have been considered by IOA instead of importing “a person from Bollywood”.
Salim Khan added #Milkhaji it is not Bollywood it is the Indian Film Industry and that too the largest in the world.
#The same industry which resurrected you from fading away in oblivion.
Actor Salman Khan’s appointment as the goodwill ambassador for Rio Olympics 2016 sparked off a stir in the sports fraternity in India , with wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and former athlete Milkha Singh speaking up against it. Khan’s Bollywood colleagues are however, divided on the decision.
Film-maker Onir expressed that India should move beyond Bollywood, at least for events which have nothing to do with the film industry. “We need to have some respect for people from other fields. For a sports event, why can’t we go with someone like Prakash Padukone or maybe a sportswoman? I don’t agree with this at all,” he told media in India.
On the other hand, actor Divya Dutta thinks Salman is perfect for the job. “There is no bigger brand than Salman. He goes much beyond films. With his sports-drama Sultan, he has entered the realm of sports as well. An ambassador is all about marketing your product or event. What is the harm in having Salman?” she told a leading TV channel from India.
Film-maker Subhash Ghai also tweeted, ‘What a gesture of our superstar @BeingSalmanKhan 4being ambassador olympics without charging any fee or gain but to inspire youth of india (sic).’ Film-maker Ashoke Pandit also wrote: “If film industry can make films on #MilkhaSingh,#MaryKom why can’t @BeingSalmanKhan be India’s face for #RioOlympics?’
